...And the music you wrote
... Compact discs were flawless in sound but that wasn't the reason I bought them.. I liked the convenience of having the whole album on the single disc.. But even that has changed as every damn record I have is now been translated to digital.. I placed every record I have on flash drive and there is a reason for that.. Five years ago, give or take, I started to notice my compact discs that I bought from the record store was deteriorating.. Getting that CHUF CHUFF CHUFF sound.. They were losing their ability to be played.. .. I got pissed because the record store I bought these at was no longer in business or had changed to another business format, they were no longer dealing in compact discs and instead selling car stereos... And most people were now finding that if you bought a compact disc it has a shelf life on it.. they have a five to ten yeat lifespan.. WTF??? Tapes never went bad like this medium does.. Records, if they are treated well will never go bad.. I thought at one point about selling my record collection to make room for the smaller medium, but after the first disc went to shit I decided to never toss a record or tape.. I might in fact try to find a nice record playing stereo some day soon...Converting everything to digital has stopped the loss of my music for now.. I had the choice, convert thae music as lossless (preferred by people who love there music which I would include myself) or convert to mp3 files which isn't preferred.. I tried listening to different file forms and tested over a few weeks time before deciding to go with mp3 and really the main reason was because I didn't hear a big enough difference.. I went from 320 to 256 and kept going down until I setled on 128 sample rate.. Most people would freak at that idea.. I was after trying to keep as much music listenable at the best rate I could get..128 might not be everyones cup of tea but I can tolerate the losses and everything.. I ended up using four flash drives (five if you count the double back up flash drive*) I started transferring my music to digital (flash drive) three years ago... And completed it for the most part a month ago although there is still some that needs to be transferred and it will never be completely done.. Standing at 95% done at all times...
